We started our work creating different samples of component based surfaces that have the qualities to change gradually as well as to do scale shifts.
Our decision to use components for our urban club is based on our aim to let them grow spatial and 3-dimensional so that the components are able to grow from a façade element to transitions and openings within the building.
The next step was to design the building that should appear like a small urbanism in the middle of the New York skyline. It consists of four parts that appear to be separated from the outside but in fact are connected from the inside. The building shape fades into small pavilions growing out of the site.
The component surfaces serve to create view connections between the different parts of the building.
They are covered under a glass layer, shift from close to open and become spatial towards the inside. During the day the surfaces seem to be hidden under a glass layer and at night time they glow out as light elements and create a strong atmosphere which is in our opinion the most important property of an urban club.
