THE SHOE
The abstract idea behind the project is the interaction between user and object as well as between objects.
What determines the shoe primarily is the shape of a foot. The shoe can be stretched and is designed to fit on to different sizes, changing its skin and color as it adapts. These changes facilitate a certain degree of individualization along with the size and shape of the foot wearing the shoe.
In terms of material we were interested in using color - changing polymers which response to mechanical forces by braking.
THE BAG
The bag can be used as a backpack or legpack. As a backpack, it fits more items, while as legpack it gives freedom for movement. We used a similarly stretchable material on this bag like we did for the shoe. Also here, it changes colors depending on the functionality mode it is used in.
THE CHAIR
For our objects we expanded our line by designing a chair which is activated by the customer. When nobody is using it, the furniture exists as a sculpture which morphs if somebody chooses to sit on it. The chair has a peace- and an activated condition. The weight determines the level of activation, which also means revealing a different color and shape. Three different types of material are combined in the chair. A stiff supporting structure holds a soft foam which is covered by a semi-stretchable skin. The soft part is pushed through the skin creating a bubble effect. Meanwhile the color of the ”bubbles” changes.
THE GARAGE
Moving to a bigger scale, we still applied the idea of a reaction to a garage which is activated by a car. In peace position the garage partly merges into the surrounding landscape. The top of the garage is on the same level as the ground and it is supported by bridges. As the car approaches it, the system of paths is pulled down revealing the garage.
THE CAR
The car is transformable from a two-seater to a four-seater. We achieve this by having two shells move apart from each other. The gap between them is filled with a stretchable material that merges to the outer shells.
Finally all the objects are interacting by changing functionality, shape and color, they are related to the human body as well as among themselves.
