Kathrina Dankl studied Industrial Design at the University of Applied Science, FH Joanneum Graz, following internships with Theo Williams (GB) and Defne Koz (TR) in Milan, she graduated in 2003 with distinction. Her studies were supported by an Achievement Scholarship from the Austrian Ministry of Education.

She joined the Department of Design History and Theory at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, as a Research Assistant in 2005. She also started her doctoral research Very Experienced People [VEP]: An Ethnography of Design, the Elderly and Style, supervised by Professor Alison J. Clarke, which is supported by a grant from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.

Kathrina Dankl is co-founder of DanklHampel Produktdesign, a young design studio based in Vienna. The studio, specializing in user-centered design, is currently active for various clients in HealthCare and Transportation Design, and works on self-initiated projects. The studio gained funding from Departure Creative Industries with the project Design for 60+ and has been part of the Business Incubator Inits since 2005.

Research interests include materiality and images of ageing, notions of style within the life course, user-centered design and design research.

Kathrina Dankl is winner of Include Social Design Conference, RCA London, paper award 2010.
