The concept of the flatshare fridge has been developed in the winterterm 2006/07 at the university of applied arts, vienna. The flatshare as a modern style of living depicts a way particularly for young people to live cheaply and independently in company. The idea of "flatshare" deals with the appearing problems of disorder and defining privacy in these urban living forms. Modular elements allow each user individual customizations (skins, add-ons), systems of order and mobility. The add-ons have differnt functions-a blackboard,a flower vase, a bottle opener,... In case of justified paranoia, even a lock can be placed.

Modern society is strongly affected by mobility - so is "flatshare". You wanna leave your old flatshare? No problem: just remove your individual module easily, tranport it like a suitcase and stack it onto the base station in your new flat/flatshare. You keep your clean and safe personal space.Further fields of appliance consist of companies and student homes.

The fridge is based on the compressor-principle, and consists of one basestation (which also functions as a shared freezer) and tackable moduls. Every module (up to 4 pieces) is connected to cooling fluid and electricity through the basestation, where a regulator controlls the power of the compressor - depending on the numberof used modules. All in one, one for all - safe energy and money!
The dimensions are the same as conventional fridges, what provides the opportunity to put the flatshare fridge into a norm-built kitchen. The frontside of the fridge can be personalized by "add ons" like bottle opener, drawing boards, etc.
On the top and bottomside there are two bases to stack the modules perfectly together. Both sides there are equipped with handles to be able to put and pull off the modules easily from each other. The cubic capacity contains 84.3 litres, which depicts a bit more than the average storage capacity of one person (statistically proved).
